In case you haven’t heard, New York Republicans just elected George Santos to Congress – a candidate who has now been exposed for fabricating nearly his entire resume.
In his campaign, Santos duped voters with made up educational history and work experience. He told voters and donors his grandparents were Holocaust survivors, and even went as far as claiming to have employed four people killed in the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting. We’re clearly dealing with a pathological liar who will say anything for personal gain.
I joined my colleagues in the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus in calling for Santos to resign. But as the 118th Congress gets underway, Santos is still walking the halls of Congress -- exploiting a position he lied his way into. It’s unacceptable, friend.
This scandal hits close to home because I actually ran against a Republican who was exposed for misleading voters and embellishing their resume.
As a meteorologist, it was my job to deliver factual, actionable information to help my community prepare for the days and weeks ahead. I ran for Congress with the belief that we could use more truth-telling in Washington -- not less.
There’s a pattern emerging here, and the Republicans appear willing to lie to the voters if it means keeping a vote in Congress. It’s cynical, and it’s politics at its very worst.
