Hey Comrade!
We hope the new year is off to a good start for you! We have a few important events coming up soon.
Join us this Saturday (1/14) to honor the labor activism of Martin Luther King Jr. as we tour the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor alongside comrades from Mahoning Valley DSA. There’s still time to sign up here.
Our first meeting in our Reimagining Public Safety campaign will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Firestone Park Library branch. There will be an informal community icebreaker before we discuss policing alternatives and whether they are right for Akron. We will provide food, so please register here so we know how much to order.
Finally, our annual chapter elections are rapidly approaching! We will vote during our January general meeting on 1/25. Our Steering Committee has four positions: two co-chairs, a communications chair, and a finance chair. We’re also seeking two harassment grievance officers (HGOs) — plus one alternate HGO — who respond to any allegations of misconduct in the chapter. You must be a member in good standing to run for office. Please see our Slack for details on how to apply. If you are a chapter member but have not joined our Slack, you can email [email protected] to request an invitation.
Our members are the heart of our chapter. You can be part of Steering to help play a larger role, but we are democratic — anyone can bring their ideas and even play a leadership role, whether on the Steering Committee or not.
In solidarity,
Akron DSA
