For months, Republicans have claimed that the Dobbs decision last summer was about states' rights and not about restricting reproductive freedom nationwide. And when abortion was on the ballot, voters made clear that they support access to safe and legal abortion care.

Now that Republicans hold a narrow majority in the House, their priorities are clear. One of the very first things they did (after they finally agreed on a Speaker) was bring two bills to the House floor to further their aggressive anti-choice agenda.

This is inexcusable.

One of the bills on the House floor this week would criminalize doctors for performing life-saving reproductive health procedures. Republicans think the government, not the pregnant person or health care professional, knows better.

The other bill was a resolution to "protect" crisis pregnancy centers from protests - while ignoring the danger that abortion providers and patients face on a daily basis. This resolution is a distraction from the real problem with crisis pregnancy centers, which is that they regularly provide dangerous misinformation to pregnant people.

Americans do not support a nationwide abortion ban. Republicans are attempting to circumvent the will of the people by slowly chipping away at reproductive rights with bills like these.

We must remain vigilant and speak out against these attacks – this is just the beginning.
