Dear John,
This month marks the start of the 118th Congress. As members of Congress head back to Capitol Hill, we need to make sure they do their jobs representing their constituents. The last Congress left many things undone, including failing to protect the right to contraception, leaving open critical federal judge seats, and not acting to keep students safe in school.
In response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, unprecedented attacks on transgender children and their families, and other attempts to roll back hard-fought rights for women, LGBTQ+ people, and people of color, women from across the country showed up in historic numbers during the Midterm Elections in November and delivered a resounding demand to Congress: prioritize equity and justice for women and girls.
This past year was a reminder of just how important judges and the courts are to gender justice issues. As our rights continue to come under attack, it’s urgent that the new Congress do something about it. One of the most important things the Senate can do is confirm fair and impartial judges to the courts who share our commitment to gender justice and reflect the rich demographic diversity of our country. Tell Congress to get to work.
We believe in a future that includes abortion access, high-quality and accessible child care, equal pay, the right to contraception, workplace protections from harassment, and keeping students safe in school—and we won’t stop fighting until we get there.
The threats to our survival, freedom, families, jobs, and well-being aren’t theoretical—they are urgent, and we need this new Congress to take action.
