The Virginia General Assembly officially convened yesterday, and I want to share more about how we can protect our progress and hold Republicans accountable this year.

Defense Dem PAC has a critical role to play: since delegates can’t raise any campaign funds during the legislative session, it’s entirely up to organizations like ours to help Democratic leaders in Richmond get the job done.

Here’s why we’re counting on your support this session:

First, the battle for abortion rights.

Right-wing delegates have already submitted legislation to make all abortions illegal in the state of Virginia. And Gov. Youngkin made it clear that he’ll sign anti-choice legislation with a smile.

That’s why it’s so critical that we protect and expand our Democratic majority in the State Senate – and after Aaron Rouse’s victory on Tuesday, we’re off to a promising start.

Second, holding Republicans accountable.

Gov. Youngkin and his right-wing allies are enacting a dangerous agenda. From criminalizing women’s healthcare, to gutting climate legislation, to targeting LGBTQ students in schools, their policies are an attack on our most basic rights and freedoms.

Only a strong, united, and prepared Democratic opposition can stop them. With your support, Defense Dem PAC will provide them with the resources they need to fight back.

Third, preparing for November and beyond.

Virginians will vote in more than 2,000 local and state elections this year. While Republicans can rely on their dark-money financiers and MAGA megadonors, Democrats are going to need our grassroots support.
