Yesterday our first official 2020 opponent launched his campaign for this seat.

In his very first interview, Matt Mowers was asked if there are any issues on which he would oppose the president. He said, “I’m not running away from anything,” that President Trump has done. That’s right. There’s nothing Donald Trump can do that our opponent won’t support.

The First District needs and deserves a member of Congress who works to put New Hampshire first, not Donald Trump. But that’s exactly what our opponent promised to do. In fact, Matt Mowers has consistently worked to advance the interests of hyper-partisan politicians like Donald Trump long before he moved to New Hampshire.

We can’t say we’re surprised to learn that the GOP has recruited a high profile GOP insider to run against Chris. And now that he is in the race, outside groups will start funneling money to fuel attacks against Chris to mislead voters and sway the 2020 election in one of the most competitive districts in the country.

Our race was close last year -- and the GOP knows the Democratic majority in the House hinges on this seat -- so we have to be ready to take on their attacks.
