"I was just a kid, I still am, and I don't think I should have to raise another one." "My (now) husband and I were not ready. We have two adorable kids, I have no regrets about our abortion." "I have no sad story. I just didn't want a child back then. Thank God I didn't have to have one. I didn't need to give any reason other than that."
ACLU Supporter, state legislatures have already begun – it's the first time in decades that they're in session without the guardrails of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision protecting abortion rights. While we at the ACLU are fighting relentlessly in statehouses and courtrooms across the country in this urgent moment – we wanted to make sure the voices of the people were heard loud and clear in all of this, too. Especially as we near what would be Roe's 50th anniversary. We received hundreds of abortion stories from ACLU community members like you, ACLU Supporter – knowing how critical this single, powerful act was to the fight. It's sharing our stories, after all, that shows the life-changing impact of this essential health care on people's lives. It's how we destigmatize the decision to access care. And it's how we continue to make clear to politicians that abortion is a fundamental right – and that we, the people, will never stop fighting for it. Onward, The ACLU Team |
