Today, the Institute for Justice took the TSA and DEA to federal court. Our goal? To end the agencies’ “when you find cash, seize it” civil forfeiture practices. As you may know, the TSA and DEA routinely treat innocent travelers like criminals, and our clients Terry Rolin and Rebecca Brown are no exception. You can hear them tell the outrageous story of how the government stole $82,000 from them in this video <[link removed]> and read more about the case in today’s exclusive from The Washington Post <[link removed]>.
While IJ has taken on the federal government’s seizure of cash from innocent people travelling internationally in two prior cases, this class action lawsuit goes directly after the even more despicable practice of taking cash from wholly innocent people travelling within this country. We know we will prevail for Terry and Rebecca—and thousands like them—just as we have before.
With your support, IJ is starting the new year with a new wave of activity challenging egregious government abuses. Look for more updates on this case and more in the days and weeks to come.
