Biden Extends Covid Public Health Emergency

Fox News: The White House’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended the COVID-19 state of emergency. HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra announced the decision Wednesday via a declaration titled, “Renewal of Determination that a Public Health Emergency Exists.” President Biden said during a television interview in September 2022 that the COVID-19 pandemic “is over” (Fox News). Axios: But the Biden administration is likely to face pressure to lift the emergency from newly ascendant House Republicans, who have already announced investigations into the U.S. COVID response (Axios).

Additional Classified Documents Have Been Found in Joe Biden’s Possession from His Time as VP
Townhall: In the same week news broke that Joe Biden had taken classified government documents from his time as vice president in the Obama administration to a private Penn Biden Center office, another story Wednesday reported that those weren’t the only sensitive documents Biden took with him in an alleged violation of the Presidential Records Act (Townhall). NBC: Aides to President Joe Biden have discovered at least one additional batch of classified documents in a location separate from the Washington office he used after leaving the Obama administration, according to a person familiar with the matter. Biden told reporters Tuesday that he was “surprised” by the discovery, and that he didn’t know what was in the documents (NBC). Katie Pavlich: If Biden “doesn’t know” what’s in the documents, how does he know there wasn’t other classified information in his unsecured office (Twitter)?

FAA Slowly Comes Online After Massive Technical Delay Causing Cancellations and Delays
Fox News: The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration lifted its ground stop order Wednesday morning after suffering a nationwide technical outage causing mass cancellations and delays. The travel chaos was caused by the failure of the FAA’s Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system, which alerts pilots and other personnel about airborne issues and other delays at airports across the country (Fox News). National Review: Biden confirmed earlier on Wednesday that he had spoken with Buttigieg and told reporters that aircraft “can still land safely, just not take off right now” (National Review). Charlie Kirk: Biden’s FAA set “racial equity,” “inclusion,” and “environmental justice” as its top priorities. Now, it can’t keep our planes in the air. Wokeness is always a weapon for making everyone’s lives worse (Twitter).

Rep. Mike Gallagher to Probe China-Friendly Corporations with New Committee to Keep China Accountable
Washington Times: The incoming chairman of the new House’s tough-on-China committee is putting Big Tech, Disney and NBA executives on notice as the panel prepares a probe into the Chinese Communist Party’s growing influence within the U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, who will oversee the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party (Washington Times). Hugh Hewitt: You saw that a lot of Democrats ultimately came down in favor. They expressed recognition of the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party, particularly the economic component of the threat is what Democrats tend to get motivated by (Daybreak Daily). Washington Examiner: Gallagher wants to use the panel to uncover how the Chinese Communist Party uses access to the country’s consumer markets to influence American corporations. Gallagher also said he wants the select committee to help the U.S. fortify itself against Chinese espionage efforts on American soil (Washington Examiner).

BlackRock Set to Layoff 500 Employees
Business Insider: BlackRock, the world’s largest asset management firm, is cutting up to 500 roles in its first round of layoffs since early 2019. The reductions represent less than 3% of its global workforce of 19,900 and come as severe market declines last year weighed heavily on revenue and assets under management (Business Insider). Daily Wire: The losses come amid BlackRock executives’ promulgation of the environmental, social, and corporate governance movement, also known as ESG, by which managers commit themselves to pursue green energy, appointing minorities to serve as managers, or otherwise blending profitability with activism (Daily Wire).

Federal Officials Race to Retract Idea of Banning Gas Stoves
National Review: U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission chairman Alexander D. Hoehn-Saric issued a statement Wednesday assuring the public that his agency has no intention of banning gas stoves after a commission official drew the ire of the cooking public by suggesting the appliances might be banned in the near future due to the alleged health threat they pose to Americans (National Review). CNN: The White House on Wednesday asserted that President Joe Biden does not support a ban on gas stoves after a federal consumer safety official suggested that such a proposal was on the table (CNN). Libs of TikTok: Gas stoves for me but not for thee (Twitter). This comes after the nation widely dismissed the idea so we can chalk this up to Biden trying to earn brownie points.

Federal Judge Rules Catholic Hospital Must Perform Trans Surgery
Townhall: A federal judge ruled Friday that a Catholic hospital in Maryland discriminated against a biological female patient who identifies as a transgender man by refusing to provide her with a hysterectomy. Jesse Hammons, the transgender patient, was represented by the American Civil Liberties Union in a lawsuit against the University of Maryland Medical System, which operates St. Joseph Medical Center (Townhall). Christian Post: The hospital was purchased by the University of Maryland Medical System in 2012 with an agreement that the hospital would continue to “operate in a manner consistent with Catholic values and principles.” The hospital also has to comply with a “‘formal reporting mechanism’ to ensure St. Joseph is held accountable for its ‘Catholic identity.'” A representative of the Archdiocese of Baltimore serves on the hospital’s board (Christian Post).

Stacey Abrams Ordered to Pay an Additional $231 Thousand in Legal Costs
Fox News: Failed Democrat Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight Action group has been ordered to pay a quarter-million dollars in legal costs by a federal court. Raffensperger, came to a close with a federal judge ruling against them in their remaining three claims (Fox News). National Review: The costly ruling is the latest in a series of setbacks for the Democratic media darling: Despite raising more than $100 million for her 2022 gubernatorial bid, Abrams’s failed campaign wound up more than $1 million in debt to vendors, an outcome several former staffers blamed on reckless spending (National Review).
