OUR FIRST NEWSLETTER OF 2023
January has been an exciting month. I've presented our "Reviewing the Past, Looking to the Future" series at the Wynmoor Democratic Club and Coconut Creek Democratic Club, and tomorrow I'll be with the Davie-Cooper City Democratic Club. In my presentation, we discuss what happened in 2022 as a state, county, and local community. We don't shy away from the tough reality that we face, but we always redirect our emotions toward action. There are concrete ways you can help Democrats win by joining us to make calls, knock on doors, attend a training,
chip in a few bucks, and take part in activities with fellow Dems who share your values. All of this will ready us for what's ahead in 2024. Read more below.
A bit about me: I'm Chris Byrnes, the Outreach & Organizing Coordinator at the Broward Democratic Party. Previously, I served as the Regional Organizing Director at the Florida Democratic Party, where I oversaw field operations and voter registration efforts in Broward. I'm from Wisconsin, where I worked at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin after years of grassroots organizing and volunteer leadership. I believe in the power of volunteers. We only win when we build a sustainable volunteer infrastructure that welcomes anyone willing to lift a hand in whatever way fits their busy life.
I work alongside Chair Rick Hoye and Executive Director Ryann Greenberg, as well as the amazing Broward Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) members. You'll find me at various clubs and caucus events, knocking doors in the community, making phone calls, or at Target and Panera.

There are critically important local elections on March 14 in six Broward communities (Coconut Creek, Deerfield Beach, Hillsboro Beach, Miramar, Pembroke Park, and Sea Ranch Lakes). Thousands of Democrats don't know there's an election, aren't aware that everyone must re-enroll in Vote-by-Mail before they can vote, and they aren't familiar with our great candidates.
Local elections matter, because city commissioners and mayors help to advance Democratic policies and have the ability to be responsive to a community’s specific needs. By electing Democrats to these positions, we're also building a bench of candidates that can continue running for higher office. I always say that today’s city commissioner could be tomorrow’s Congresswoman!
Drop off new personal care items at the BDP office on Thursday 1/12 from 4pm-7pm at the Broward Democratic Party headquarters. Your donations will be distributed by volunteers directly to those affected by homelessness in Fort Lauderdale. A special thank you to Mishka Ahmad and Ana Anselmo for their leadership on this project.
UPCOMING JANUARY DEC MEETING
We hope you'll join us for the January 2023 Broward DEC Meeting at Tamarac Community Center on Tuesday 1/17 from 7pm-9pm. Learn more about the ways you can be involved with our party, hear about the budget for 2023, and meet like-minded people.
We are preparing hundreds of thousands of postcards to mail to Democrats in 2024. They will urge Dems to vote for our Democratic Presidential nominee and be mailed just as Vote-by-Mail ballots are sent out in our county. This is an exciting long term project and our first in-person postcard writing event happens this Saturday 1/14 in Pembroke Pines.
