Dear friend,

Today Congressman Mike Carey was selected to serve on the prestigious House Committee on Ways and Means. As a supporter and friend of our campaign, we wanted to share this fantastic news with you first:

“It is truly an honor and privilege to be selected to serve on the Ways and Means committee during the 118th Congress,” Rep. Carey said. “I am excited to work alongside Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Chairman Jason Smith, and our Republican majority as we develop tax, trade, healthcare and many other solutions to lower costs for the American people and get our economy back on track. Earning a place on this prestigious committee is something I have worked very hard for, but it would not have been possible without your consistent support. Thank you for all you have done to help me continue my work on behalf of Ohio’s 15th Congressional District on the Ways and Means Committee.”

Upon announcing the newest members of Ways and Means, Chairman Jason Smith stated:

“Congressman Carey will be a valuable member of the Ways and Means Committee on behalf of his constituents. Rep. Carey’s background in the energy sector will make an excellent addition to the committee as we work to unleash American energy independence and reduce barriers to energy production in our tax code. America is facing multiple crises after two years of Democrat one-party rule. The Ways and Means Committee is ready to get to work building a stronger economy that will help working families, tackle inflation, lower taxes, and promote investment in America.”

About the Ways and Means Committee:

The Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest committee of the United States Congress and serves as the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The Committee derives much of its jurisdiction from Article I, Section VII of the Constitution which declares, “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives.”

In addition to serving as the chief tax-writing committee, Ways and Means also has jurisdiction over revenue and related issues such as tariffs, reciprocal trade agreements, and the bonded debt of the United States. The Committee also oversees revenue-related aspects of the Social Security system, Medicare, and social services programs.
