The Honorable Aida Touma-Sliman, a member of
the Joint List in the Israeli Knesset, is the founder of the Women
Against Violence Association and former editor of Al-Ittihad
newspaper. Touma-Sliman is one of the most prominent feminists in the
Arab community, and one of the most prominent advocates in the Knesset
for the Arab minority in Israel. MK Touma-Sliman presents unique
insights into the Israeli Knesset, including how best Congress can
improve the state of minority rights in Israel, as well as the rights
of those under Israeli occupation.
MK Touma-Sliman is joined by a distinguished panel to
discuss a disturbing new reality unfolding in the Middle East. Israel
is in an unprecedented political deadlock that is sending the country
into a third election, after the previous two elections failed to
produce a governing coalition. Meanwhile, the Trump Administration has
broken with long-standing U.S. policy, endorsing Israel’s illegal
acquisition of territory by force, at a time when Israel is moving to
annex large parts of the occupied West Bank. What does the future hold
in this rapidly changing reality? What are the prospects for peace in
the face of the unprecedented assault on basic Palestinian rights? And
what should U.S. policy be in light of all of this? Join us!
