Dear Friends of Critical Resistance (CR),

We at CR enter this next year of 2023 with clarity of purpose, tireless commitment to making material advances against the systems and institutions that cage, kill and incapacitate our people and communities, and an eagerness to generate shared, collective, organizing resources for abolition and victorious movement building.

Last month we put out the call to support our campaigns and projects through grassroots donations. You showed us the value of our organizing and the power of grassroots fundraising, helping us raise over $85,000 for the entire organization - with donations ranging from $10 to $10,000! Your resources and support are essential to making prison industrial complex (PIC) abolition common sense and sustaining PIC abolition in action through CR's campaigns, projects, political education, and movement partnerships. THANK YOU!

Already this year, CR members in Oakland and Los Angeles have hit the ground running, gearing up for a statewide digital mobilization in California to raise our collective demands for prison closure to the state legislature through a virtual rally and press conference this Thursday, January 12 ([link removed]) . In New York, CR New York City (CRNYC) has continued to support Abolish ICE New York New Jersey coalition’s emergency phone zap actions ([link removed]) to demand the people are people imprisoned in ICE detention. We hope you continue to join us ([link removed]) in these efforts this week and moving forward.

In addition to furthering the fight to close prisons in California and ending Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) transfers in the state of New York, this year we are prioritizing building the health, strength, and well-being of our organization by continuing to fortify our prisoner correspondence infrastructure with a full-time year-long fellowship ([link removed]) , and by solidifying a long-term organizational home for CR, our Oakland chapter and national office, in North Oakland, CA -- where we are transforming a vacant 9,000 square foot building and lot into a vibrant movement building and abolitionist community space.

Currently, [link removed] is seeking a Building and Project Manager ([link removed]) [link removed] coordinate the planning, design, and interim management of our North Oakland space at 4400 Telegraph. The 4400 Building and Project Manager will work alongside a CR Building Committee made up of CR members, Construction Management Team and other necessary stakeholders, and is responsible for managing the design and renovation of the building, interim building use, and coordinating CR’s preparation for occupancy.
