Hey John –

As native Long Islanders, we have been glued to the ongoing saga surrounding GOP Rep. George Santos (NY-03). Already under heavy scrutiny  for his lies and suspicious campaign finances, Santos’ story took a turn for the  unimaginable – last week, Brazilian authorities reopened a 2008 investigation for fraud, which had gone cold after he fled the country.

He even admitted to doing it in 2009, though surprise, surprise, his story has since changed. Either way, it’s obvious that he did not learn his lesson then – let’s not forget the egregious lies he peddled to get elected, which include:

* Being biracial and "Jew-ish"
* Attending NYU 
* Graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Baruch College
* His mother dying in the 9/11 attacks
* Working for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs
* Running an animal welfare charity
* Claiming FOUR of his employees died at the Pulse club shooting             
* Managing a real estate empire (In fact, he’s been evicted TWICE!)

So between that non-exhaustive list, the extremely shady campaign financing, past involvement with Ponzi schemes and a possible extradition, one thing is certain: There is no place in the federal government for a fraud like George Santos.

House Republicans can’t seem to stop making mistake after mistake this week, and while we definitely don’t want to interrupt them, this guy is a pathological liar! But until Kevin McCarthy pulls on his big-boy pants and takes a stand against this flagrant fraudster among his flock, the GOP will just keep on exposing itself as the party of fascists, trolls, cowards and conmen. 

Simply put, George Santos cannot faithfully represent the interests of Long Islanders, or even his own party, if he can’t truthfully represent himself. His constituents deserve better, and the American people deserve better. 

But until McCarthy and the rest of the GOP grow a spine, the two of us have one question remaining: What does the MeidasMighty think about all this?
