Countdown to Policy Orientation 2020

What to Know: In the past three years, the Trump administration has cut hundreds of regulations, saving Americans billions of dollars.

The TPPF Take: Americans prosper with more reasonable regulations.

“While some regulations may serve a purpose regarding health and safety, they are often just another example of government overreach,” says TPPF’s Rod Bordelon. “Instead of giving bureaucrats more control over our lives, many regulations and associated bureaucracy should be eliminated.”

Gun Control Follies

What to Know: Gun control advocates were out in force at a recent Texas Senate committee hearing on safety.

The TPPF Take: The most common gun control measures being proposed wouldn’t have the desired effect.

“Everyone seems to have an idea of what policy interventions can stop troubling shooting events from happening again,” says TPPF’s Derek Cohen. “But many of the proposals that have been floated recently would directly infringe on the right to bear arms and self-defense as explicitly enumerated in the United States and Texas constitutions.”

You Don’t Say

What to Know: Sweden—home of climate activist Greta Thunberg—has voted climate policy as the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars for 2019.

The TPPF Take: Costly climate change policies hurt the poor the most.

“Climate change policies are like backwards Robin Hood, but worse — stealing from the poor to make the rich feel good about themselves,” said TPPF’s Katie Tahuahua. “Even Sweden is beginning to realize its ‘green’ programs aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.”
