Dear John
By the end of this year, the UK government plans to erase hundreds of environmental laws from the statute books.
2023 could be the year our rivers are doomed to even more sewage. Our air to more pollution. And our green spaces to yet more destruction.
But if enough of us speak out against the government’s plans, we can make this a year to celebrate instead. Let’s wake politicians up to the ecological crisis and save our vital laws. Please sign this petition today and demand they ditch this damaging proposal.

These plans were championed by Jacob Rees-Mogg during Liz Truss’ brief run as prime minister.
They give government ministers huge powers over which EU-derived laws we keep, which we water down, and which we ditch completely [1]. Given that these are the sorts of laws that protect us from pesticides and other toxic pollution, that’s too risky.
Let’s get the year off to a winning start. If you want to help safeguard your health and wellbeing and that of the natural world in 2023, please sign this petition today.

Best wishes and happy new year,

NOTES:
[1] Worryingly, this is also the case for many laws that affect things like workers’ rights and consumer safety as well.
[2] Investment zones, which are currently under review, are areas where laws meant to protect communities and the environment wouldn’t apply, so businesses and developers could do what they want.
