John:
The first thing Republicans did once they took the House majority was gut the Office of Congressional Ethics.
Last night, House Republicans passed a rules package that will severely weaken the ability of the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) to investigate members of Congress for potential wrongdoing – something I still cannot wrap my head around.
House Republicans have now made it almost impossible for the Office of Congressional Ethics to hire staff, and to actually investigate any ethical issues in Congress. Some of the members of the House Republican caucus are currently under ethics investigations. This is plainly a way to avoid accountability and will assuredly lead to more corruption.
If you think that members of Congress should be held to a high standard of ethics, sign my petition now.

Political posturing and back-door deals like this are exactly the reason why so many Americans do not trust their elected officials and become apathetic towards our entire political process as a result.
If we want Americans to engage in our democracy, then they need to trust that those in power will not rig the rules in their favor. As a member of Congress, I will fight to make sure that equity, transparency, and justice are written into all of our laws – including those that regulate Congress.
Sign on now to condemn the gutting of the Office of Congressional Ethics and demand that members of Congress are held accountable for their conduct!
