Wow, we’re only ten days into the new year and already members of the Pennsylvania legislature are pushing two bills to disenfranchise voters, cast doubt on our already secure elections, and give themselves unilateral power to reject regulations that protect against air and water pollution.

Together, these bills will radically skew the balance of power in favor of the legislative branch. Make no mistake – we’re seeing these bills because, in just a month’s time, state Republicans will only have a majority in the state Senate, and they are running scared.

Here’s what they’re pushing:
- Senate Bill 1 would require all voters to show an ID when casting their ballots. There’s zero evidence that this policy makes elections more secure, whereas there’s lots of evidence that voter ID laws prevent people of color, young people, and low-income people from voting.
- SB 1 will threaten the health and safety of Pennsylvanians by allowing the General Assembly to unilaterally get rid of any new regulations proposed by agency experts and supported by several public comment periods.
- Senate Bill 130 calls for additional election audits when Pennsylvania already has several processes to ensure the integrity of our elections, and it will waste taxpayer dollars.

The Senate knows this is an extreme agenda so they are trying to rush these bills through so that they will appear on the May 2023 ballot. We need to get loud and show our senators that the majority of Pennsylvanians strongly oppose Republican leaders using constitutional amendments to get their way.

Your voice will be critical these next few days, Friend. Please use it to urge your senator to protect our democracy by voting against SB 1 and SB 130: [link removed]

Instead of disenfranchising Pennsylvanians, disrupting the balance of power between the legislative and executive branches, and injecting uncertainty into our election process, senators should start the new year by addressing the real problems our commonwealth faces.

Addressing rising costs, increasing access to health care, stopping pollution that’s making our communities sicker, and creating good-paying jobs in the clean energy sector are just a few of the issues that we all care about.

We must fight these bad bills by telling our lawmakers to get their priorities straight. No matter who your state senator is, your message matters.

Send a message to your Senator right now urging them to vote NO on SB 1 and SB 130: [link removed]
