I’m always proud to be a New Yorker, but I’m especially proud that I share a home state with my colleague, friend, and the new House Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries.

Hakeem is a true public servant and a leader who is ready to meet the moment and guide us toward success for 2023 and beyond.

From the moment I decided to run in last year’s special election in NY-19, Hakeem has had my back. When many in Washington didn’t take our special election seriously, Hakeem did. Even with his busy schedule, he took the time to meet with me, offer me advice, and advocate for me at every opportunity. When many didn’t believe, Hakeem did, and that’s why I’m so honored to now have his back as we start the work to regain our majority.

Now that Democrats are in the minority in the House, we have to seize every chance to hold Republicans accountable. When these GOP extremists campaigned, they promised to enact maximum harm by urgently passing legislation that will be detrimental to the well-being of millions of Americans — but I know with Hakeem at the helm, Democrats will fight back and do everything in our power to stop these attacks on foundational freedoms and our way of life.

Team, Hakeem and I are both committed to serving New Yorkers in the House, and we know that the path to reclaiming the house runs directly through New York. We will do everything we can to flip NY House seats from red to blue in the 2024 elections.
