Dear John,
We have work to do.
We have just 7 years left before 2030—the date by which global emissions must decrease by almost 50% in order to limit warming to 1.5°C and mitigate the most severe impacts of the climate crisis. We know it’s going to take significant corporate action to get us there, and yet more than half of public companies we analyzed have yet to even establish comprehensive climate goals, let alone plans to reduce emissions.
That’s why Ceres launched our Ambition 2030 initiative, focused on decarbonizing the highest-emitting sectors of the economy.
These 6 sectors—banking, electric power, food and agriculture, oil and gas, steel, and transportation—account for roughly 80% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, according to 2019 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency data.
With Ceres Ambition 2030, we are leveraging the power of investors and other stakeholders, corporate leaders, and company value chains to support and catalyze momentum across these key sectors. We are developing and refining sector strategies and challenging investors and companies to set plans in motion to accelerate this transition. Our new Ceres Ambition 2030 webpage
includes resources for engagement and case studies within each of the six sectors, as well as dashboards that will track each sector’s progress to ensure that we are on schedule to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030. |
Explore all the new resources sector by sector by visiting Ceres Ambition 2030 on our website. You can also learn more about this initiative by reading my latest blog on ceres.org. |
Thank you,
