John-

We want to show our appreciation to everyone who made our July 23 national call-In day a success.

The phone calls that APWU members, the Labor movement, and community allies made had a real effect on the House of Representatives. It was a big step forward in our ongoing campaign to repeal the burdensome pre-funding mandate that is damaging our Public Postal Service.

Here is what we achieved:

  • Over 5,000 postal workers called Congress. This number reflects the calls made through the APWU legislative hotline. Other allies directed their membership to call the Capitol Hill switchboard.
  • We called every U.S. Representative’s office.
  • When notice first went out on July 8 about the national call-in day, we were 70 co-sponsors away from hitting the majority. We are now only 11 away! When a Representative agrees to co-sponsor, there is usually a delay before it is reported out. Be patient, but persistent. To find out if your Representative has been listed as a co-sponsor on H.R. 2382 click here.

You can read a report and find more ways to get involved here.

The House broke for summer recess on Friday, July 26 and will return on Monday, September 9.

If your Representative has not yet signed on, be sure to follow up with their district office by calling or scheduling a visit. If they have signed on, your Representative is always appreciative of a thank-you. To review our tips for a successful visit click here. Remember to send pictures of your visit to [email protected].
