Dear friend,

I wanted to make sure you saw the new numbers that came out yesterday.

A poll from Data For Progress found that New Yorkers overwhelmingly support my plan to raise the minimum wage.

According to the survey, about 76 percent of likely voters across the state approve of my proposal, which would raise the minimum wage to over $20 by 2026. Most importantly, the poll showed that voters from both parties support this legislation to increase the minimum wage.

In a time of intense division this is something we all can agree on. It’s easy to see why. Around the country — and especially in New York — pay isn’t keeping up with the cost of living. The worst inflation in four decades has caused food and rent prices to spiral higher and higher. People are getting less bang for their buck.

Here in New York City, the minimum wage has already plummeted more than 15 percent in value, and is projected to fall more than 30% by 2027. That’s a crisis. My plan is designed to address it. It’s the emergency response working New Yorkers need.

This legislation would raise pay all over the state and allow for an even higher minimum wage in New York City where costs are the highest. It would establish future increases pegged to the cost of living to ensure we don’t fall behind again. Experts have found my #RaiseTheWage plan would immediately provide a $3,300 annual raise for three million people. Women and workers of color would gain the most.

It’s not just about fair pay. In the past we have seen that crime drops when wages go up. Money to workers also means money goes back into the community. We all do better when we do it together.

Other states and cities have already confronted this issue. The historic $15 minimum wage that we enacted about five years ago has now been surpassed. Right now 50 cities and two states have higher wages than New York. Washington D.C. and 18 states have pegged minimum wages to the cost of living.

New York was once the leader on this issue. We need to lead again. We need to #RaiseTheWage.

I am making this my top priority for my next year in Albany. I won’t be able to get it done without your support.

Will you donate $3 right now, or whatever you can afford, in order to make sure I have the resources I need to keep fighting for a fair wage for everyone in this state? ([link removed])

This is our chance to make a real difference. Thank you for your support.

In service,
Jessica Ramos
