Folks,
The 2023 General Assembly session starts tomorrow and we wanted to remind you what’s at stake as legislators convene in Richmond.
For the GOP, the name of the game is abortion rights. Republicans, Delegate Marie March and Senator Travis Hackworth, have already submitted legislation that would establish a “life begins at conception” law and create a total ban on abortion in Virginia.
It’s likely to pass the House and Gov. Youngkin has said that he’d sign any anti-abortion legislation with a smile.
The only protection the people of Virginia have is the Senate of Virginia, where Democrats hold a slim majority. There is a special election today in SD-07 that could tip the balance of power in the Senate and ensure the right to an abortion in Virginia. But for that to happen, Democrats need to flip the Republican-held district in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. [[link removed]]
It’s Election Day in Virginia. Can we count on you to chip in before the polls close tonight and session begins tomorrow? [[link removed]] We have the opportunity to protect abortion rights in Virginia — this is one of the most important fights we’re in right now, and we can’t afford to lose. I hope you’ll join us.
