As a new year begins, my excitement for the future is mixed with grief; 2023 will be the first full year without Paul, our dear friend and Partners In Health co-founder. All of us—the clinicians he mentored, the students he taught, and the people he inspired—begin this year without his physical presence, but we feel him always present as we continue this work and further his legacy.
That shining legacy grows larger and richer with each act of care Paul’s life and work inspire. Indeed, the roadmap he left us is filled with ambitious plans for the future.
These plans are already being implemented. As I write, my colleagues around the world care for the sick, support those in need, and advocate for bold practices and policies—making progress towards a healthier, more just world for all.
Thank you again for your dedication to our shared mission. Your partnership is essential, our work continues, and we remain forever grateful for your support.
With warm wishes,
Ophelia

P.S. Please take a moment to review the recently published 2022 PIH Annual Report. You’ll hear directly from staff, clinicians, activists, and patients who deliver care where it is needed most, use that experience to change policies, educate the next generation of health leaders, and help others to do the same all around the world.
