We first announced it on Giving Tuesday, but now it’s time to shout from the rooftops:
BCBenefits, our contraceptive access fund, is live and helping women from coast to coast access the birth control that’s right for them.
The response–and the demand–has been HUGE, Friend.
Why?
19.5 million women working to make ends meet live in contraceptive deserts—counties without reasonable access to the full range of contraceptive methods. 11 million are estimated to be without any form of health insurance (including coverage via the Affordable Care Act) to support the costs associated with contraceptive services. Women without coverage or access spend, on average, more than $500 a year to get birth control. That number includes costs for unreimbursed care and prescriptions, transportation, childcare, and wages lost while attending appointments.
That’s really steep for something 78% of adults agree is a basic part of a woman’s health care.
That’s why we created BCBenefits: to support access to birth control for women in need by alleviating the cost barriers they face accessing the birth control method that is right for them.
Hosted on Bedsider.org, Power to Decide’s birth control support network, BCBenefits currently provides coupon codes for free birth control pills from telemedicine providers we have partnered with, such as PRJKT Ruby and Twentyeight Health.
We want to roll out additional benefits such as reimbursements for medical costs not covered by insurance, childcare, reimbursement for unpaid time off, gas cards, and ride vouchers, so women can travel safely and worry-free to appointments.
But we must make sure we have enough money in the fund to cover the demand we’re expecting.
Fill the fund, Friend. Make sure that all women—no matter who they are or where they live—have the power to decide if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child by donating to BCBenefits and Power to Decide today.
Sincerely,
Ginny Ehrlich, D.Ed, MPH, MS
