Dear John,
A new Fraser Institute study released today finds that since 2007/08, combined federal and provincial debt in Canada has nearly doubled – from $1.1 trillion to a projected $2.1 trillion.
On a per-person basis, the combined debt this year ranges from a low of $42,915 in Alberta to a high of $64,579 in Newfoundland & Labrador. (Ontarians have the second-highest combined debt per person at $59,773.)
These high debt levels create serious fiscal challenges for Ottawa and provincial governments, and will inevitably result in higher taxes in the future.
Read the full study here, and be sure to help inform your fellow Canadians on social media!
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
President
