Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The 2023 legislative session gaveled in at high Noon Tuesday last week and I was sworn into my new role as Senator after serving the previous eight years as State Representative. I am truly humbled and honored to continue serving our great community in my new capacity fighting for our shared values and priorities. I will be representing Senate District 30 in my four-year term, which includes the communities of Rockford Township, Hanover, Saint Michael, Albertville, Otsego, Elk River, Nowthen, and Western Oak Grove.
I have been appointed to three Senate committees:
- Education Finance Committee
- Energy, Utilities, Environment, and Climate Committee
- Ranking Republican Member on the Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee
Please come visit me at my Capitol office #2413 in the Senate Office Building, calling my office at 651-296-5655, or emailing me at [email protected].
This is the first of my legislative update emails I will be sending weekly on Mondays highlighting activities and items of importance.

Sen. Lucero placing his hand on the Bible Tuesday at the MN Capitol to be sworn in as senator with MN Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Gildea administering the oath of office. “I'm 100% committed to continue fighting for truth, constitutional values, and our Republic,” Lucero said.

Sen. Lucero speaking to a large crowd Thursday in the MN Capitol Rotunda on the topics of medical freedom and informed consent. “Conscientious objection has existed in MN law for many years empowering parents to make the best vaccine decisions for their own children, including opting out. Democrats seek to repeal the law,” Lucero said. “I stand with parents fighting to protect our medical freedom rights!” A video of Sen. Lucero’s remarks at the rally can be viewed at the following link HERE.

MY PRIORITIES
My priorities at the Capitol are guided by the priorities of our community. The top items I consistently hear from residents include:
- Cut taxes and return the $17 billion surplus to combat inflation and rising energy costs
- Reform to stop the hundreds of millions squandered to waste, fraud, and abuse
- Empower individuals to make their own medical freedom choices
- Ensure transparency and accountability in education
- Protect innocent life in the womb
- Restore law and order and public safety
- Defend our Second Amendment rights
I will be introducing bills in the coming weeks on the above and additional topics

Sen. Lucero speaking to a full room Friday in Rogers at the I-94 West Corridor Coalition legislative preview breakfast. “The $100M+ spent in the last several years expanding and improving I-94 between Maple Grove and Clearwater has reduced congestion while dramatically improving commute times, safety, and quality of life for our growing area,” Lucero said. “More is needed however including three lanes between Albertville and Monticello, remaining two ramps at the Hwy 610 interchange, and expanding the Fish Lake interchange in Maple Grove.”

DEMOCRAT PRIORITIES
Out of 2.5 million votes cast, the Democrats won slim majorities in the MN House and Senate, winning the Senate by 321 votes in a close race that determined control of the chamber, and winning the House by 1,475 votes combined between the closest races that gave them a majority. Democrats have convoluted the reality MN voters are split nearly 50/50 as some kind of mandate to swing as far to the radical left as possible. Before this legislative session even began, Democrats were deciding how to spend the budget surplus rather than return the budget surplus to Minnesota taxpayers. Democrats have further outlined their priorities and introduced bills the first week of session including:
- Fast tracking abortion for any reason all the way up to the moment of birth
- Increasing taxes in the name of paid time-off socialism
- Weaking election integrity even further
- Dishing out drivers licenses to illegal immigrants
- Thrusting sky-high energy costs on all Minnesotans in the name of the “human-caused global warming” scam
- Polluting the minds and robbing the innocence of young children by exposing them to twisted sexual confusion
- Much, much more

PEOPLE ARE FLEEING MINNESOTA
With fraud of taxpayer dollars running rampant and Democrats focused more on consolidating power, using government to forcefully redistribute other people’s money, and expanding collectivist socialism rather than ensuring transparency, accountability, and empowering individuals and families the ability to self-determine the outcomes of their own lives, Minnesota is rapidly becoming a cold California. As a result, people are fleeing Minnesota for better opportunity in friendlier states.
The StarTribune recently published an article with the headline Minnesota's population growth sees 'concerning' stall for a second year which can be found at the following link HERE. The article points out Democrat run Minnesota, New York, and California are hemorrhaging population due to people migrating to the friendly policies of Republican run states such as Florida and Texas.
