Hey folks, it’s Congresswoman Lucy McBath.
My friend and colleague Ayanna Pressley is a bold, activist leader in Congress. I’ve been so proud to work alongside her as we fight for gun safety reform, reproductive freedom, voting rights, and more.
I never saw myself as an activist, until my son Jordan was shot and killed over a decade ago in November 2012. At that moment, everything changed. As a grieving mother, I decided I had to turn my pain into purpose. I decided to dedicate my life to ensuring that no parent has to feel the pain that I felt that day – and that I still feel to this day.
Now as Ayanna and I enter our third terms in Congress, I’m grateful to have Ayanna’s continued partnership as we work to center those closest to the pain of gun violence and push for policy solutions that will keep our communities safe. Her voice and leadership are vital to this fight.
But our work is far from over. We’re facing a Republican majority in the House, so Democrats will have to redouble our efforts to pass urgent gun safety reforms — and keep up the fight to protect voting rights, civil rights, and bodily autonomy from Republican attacks.
