Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has finally cliched House Speaker on his 15th bid.

The House Rules Committee released an updated version of a rules package for the 118th Congress late Friday. 

The winner of the House Speaker must receive a majority of votes. (218, though that number could change as "present" votes subtract from the total and lower the majority threshold.)

Second Anniversary of the Jan. 6 Insurrection

Last Friday marked the second anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol, when a mob of supporters of Former President Donald Trump rioted after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. 

President Biden held an award ceremony earlier to honor the heroes of that day. He awarded 12 individuals with the “Presidential Citizens Medal” award, one of the nation’s highest civilian honors, and thanked them for their contribution to protecting democracy.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul approved legislation to legalize natural organic reduction — also known as human composting. New York is the sixth state to allow this burial method for the deceased. 

While human composting is only growing in popularity, many find it unsettling, irreligious, and immoral.
