Yesterday, I visited the United States/Mexico border in El Paso with President Joe Biden. We met with El Paso officials and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers to discuss the ongoing immigration crisis at our southern border.

I thank President Biden for visiting our southern border and seeing firsthand the situation our border communities have been facing. America is a nation built by immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws. I will continue to advocate for sensible, bipartisan solutions to address this crisis. We must have order at the border and still provide a legal, orderly pathway of relief for asylum-seekers.

The first step in solving any problem begins by listening. Today, we heard directly from our border communities, our local law enforcement, and the men and women in green and blue to gauge how we can solve this matter together. I applaud President Biden’s visit to our southern border as we address the ongoing immigration crisis.

I look forward to continuing to work with President Biden, his Administration, and my colleagues in Congress to effectively and efficiently develop a plan to secure our southern border.
