2023 is NOT an off year for elections, John.

There are special elections happening all across the country! And with so many issues being dealt with at the state and local level – like abortion rights – these elections matter.

1. Pennsylvania has a special election in February to determine whether Democrats or Republicans will control the 101-101 state House of Representatives. Whoever wins this seat will determine the PA legislative agenda for the upcoming year!

2. Wisconsin has a special election in April to replace a state Senate Republican who’s retiring. This open position leaves Wisconsin’s GOP one vote short of a supermajority. Securing a win will ensure that state Senate Republicans don’t override Democratic Gov. Tony Evers' veto power!

3. Virginia has a special election TOMORROW in the state Senate. Legislative seats are up for grabs this year and VA Democrats are hanging on by a razor-thin majority. It’s critical that Democrats flip this seat blue to secure their Senate majority and prevent right-wing Gov. Glenn Youngkin from passing extreme anti-abortion legislation.

These are some of the most critical special elections happening at the beginning of 2023, and with abortion rights on the line everywhere, we need to ensure pro-choice Democrats win.
