The 2022 NEWsflash
A Year in Review
Friend,

Happy New Year, and welcome to a special, year-in-review edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of stories and happenings from Northeast Wisconsin over the past year. 2022 was an incredible year filled with some amazing moments.

Below you'll find some photos and highlights from one of the many events my team and I were able to attend each month, and you can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance. Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy new year!

Semper Fi,
January
Working for Clean Water:  In January, I was proud to recognize Ty Larson with a Congressional Certificate of Appreciation for his leadership as the facilitator of the Save the Bay Upper Fox/Wolf Watershed Workgroup. Ty spent many hours guiding and supporting the Save the Bay initiative, and his dedication and expertise has been a tremendous asset to me and to our community over the years. Thank you again for all your work, Ty!
February
Growing the NEW Workforce: February marked the launch of the Northeast Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship program. This partnership between CESA 7, the Green Bay Chamber, Ahnapee Youth Apprenticeship, local universities, and businesses provides another amazing option for students in Northeast Wisconsin looking to prepare themselves for the workforce.
March
Recognizing Eagle Scouts: In March, I had the chance to attend Jeremy Weller Jr.'s Eagle Scout Award Ceremony and congratulate him on his work in person. Jeremy led a team that constructed four canine obstacles at the De Pere Dog Park, which involved over 175 hours of community service in the process.
April
Talking Congress with Kids: In April, I had the opportunity to visit Valley View Elementary School where I got to speak with students about my job and how the federal government works. It is always a pleasure to meet young Northeast Wisconsinites and answer their questions.
May
Caffeinating Green Bay: In May, I served alongside the hardworking employees at Grounded Cafe in Green Bay. Grounded Cafe ensures that every Northeast Wisconsinite has the chance to participate in meaningful work -- and they have a knack for making great coffee and soup! While working, I also got a few tips from one of the Cafe's Ambassadors, Lucas, on how to make the perfect latte.
June
Celebrating 100 Years of Service: First opening its doors in January of 1922, The American Legion Post in Suring celebrated 100 incredible years of service to the veteran community this year. In June, I was able to meet with some of the members, speak at the ceremony, and present the post with a Congressional Record, a document that represents the official proceedings of Congress, to celebrate this important anniversary.
July
Inspiring the Next Generation of NEW: In July, I spoke at the announcement of the partnership between Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), the Greater Green Bay Chamber, and global technology company Xometry Inc., to provide scholarships to those pursuing a career in advanced manufacturing. Thanks to this innovative partnership a new generation of Northeast Wisconsinites will have both the skills and the opportunity to enter into careers in manufacturing, and employers will have high-quality applicants to fill the workforce shortage.
August
Touring Northeast Wisconsin: Every August, I take my entire staff on a tour across Wisconsin’s 8th district. Whether they hail from Wisconsin or not, they always learn something new each district tour -- and so do I. This year, we visited all 11 counties and traveled hundreds of miles to meet people like you and learn more about your lives -- all in the hopes that we can bring some Northeast Wisconsin common sense back to Congress.
September
Continuing a Legacy of Shipbuilding: In September, Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay broke ground on their new Machine Shop, Building 110. My staff celebrated yet another impressive expansion to the shipyard and to the shipbuilding industry in Northeast Wisconsin.
October
Honoring 150 years of Kimberly-Clark: In October, A member of my team attended the 150th anniversary event for Kimberly-Clark in Neenah, and I was able to congratulate the crowd virtually. The Fox Valley specifically has a long history of making high-quality paper products from start to finish, and that’s in large part thanks to the work of Kimberly-Clark, which has been a pioneer in the industry since it first opened its doors.
November
Welcoming our Veterans Home: In November, I met veterans and their guardians as they returned to the Appleton Airport after their Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. I always love to join the crowd in welcoming veterans home from these trips, and it was especially moving just before Veterans Day.
December
Recognizing an Extraordinary Veteran: In the final month of the year, I presented the 2022 Northeast Wisconsin Veteran of the Year award to Army veteran Mike Weaver for his heroic service during the Vietnam War and his continued commitment to Northeast Wisconsin. Weaver, a longtime resident of Kaukauna, served as an Army medic, and after returning home served as President of the Wisconsin Kiwanis, a Special Olympics Fox Valley coach, and chaplain of the Disabled American Veterans Appleton Post. Even after his retirement, he has continued to volunteer with St. Paul Elder Services and assist veterans on hospice and end-of-life care.
