Cardinal Health Chief Information Officer Michelle Greene says the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence "will reach new heights" this year, enabling data-based decision-making and enhancing organizational resilience in health care and other sectors. Amazon plans to lay off over 18,000 employees -- or just over 1% of its entire workforce -- with a focus on its corporate offices but not its warehouses. The cognitive mechanisms behind procrastination are not fully understood, but research suggests that the human brain generally prefers getting a smaller reward sooner to getting a larger one later, and the procrastination-prone mind is especially likely to think that leaving a task for the future will somehow be easier. People who tend to procrastinate can improve the situation by setting reminders and envisioning how putting off important activities and decisions will make life more difficult, study author Raphael Le Bouc says.

Leaders can accomplish more in 2023 by setting a "Mount Shasta Goal" that's big and "off in the distance," writes Wally Bock, who notes that drivers on part of Interstate 5 in California can't help but be aware of the mountain's majestic presence everywhere they turn. "If you're serious about hitting your version of my Mount Shasta Goal, you need to check from time to time to evaluate how you're doing," Bock writes.
