John,

This past campaign was the most challenging of my life. Millions of dollars were spent to sow division, hate, and fear. It was a critical test for our movement, and we stood strong. We were positive, and voters responded.

I’m honored to begin my second term as Attorney General of Minnesota. Four years ago, we came together around a shared vision for a just and fair society where everyone can afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect.

We fought for and passed the Alec Smith Emergency Insulin Act and successfully defended it in court when Big Pharma sued to overturn it. I’m holding opioid manufacturers accountable for the death and destruction they caused in our communities – seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in damages for treatment, remediation, and prevention in Minnesota.

I promised to fight wage theft because you should take home every dollar you've earned.

We helped pass one of the nation’s strongest wage theft laws that gives the Minnesota Attorney General the power to enforce wage theft violations, and I set up a unit in my office dedicated to it. So far, we’ve already put more than a quarter-million dollars back into workers’ pockets.

I promised to prioritize women’s economic security because women and people of all genders must have the same opportunities and legal protections.

We created a first-of-its-kind task force on women’s economic security to identify the economic barriers women face so we can propose solutions. I’ve protected choice and reproductive freedom, including fighting the unconstitutional abortion bans in Texas and Mississippi – all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

I promised to focus on helping farmers and people in Greater Minnesota fight corporate greed because your zip code and community shouldn’t be a barrier to affording your life, and folks in Greater Minnesota face particular challenges.

I held telecom companies accountable for deceptive advertising and substandard service in Greater Minnesota. I called for a federal investigation of antitrust practices in the meatpacking industry and more federal protections for rural workers.

I’m proud of the progress we made, but there are still powerful special interests waiting in the wings for their chance to restrict our right to vote, end our right to choose, make us less safe, and make corporations more powerful and the middle-class weaker.

The last four years have shown us that we can’t predict the future. But whatever the next four years bring, I pledge to you that every decision we will make will be based on helping you thrive in this economy, in this society, and in this world – because everybody counts and everybody matters, no exceptions.

Thank you,

Keith Ellison
