I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the new year! It's been a busy week in Washington, D.C., but I am honored to be able to continue to serve you as your Representative for Arizona's 8^th Congressional District. New Speaker Elected

We all witnessed something that has not happened since before the Civil War this week, and I was there right in the middle of it. At around 2:00 AM on January 7, 2023, on the 15^th round of votes, Speaker McCarthy won the gavel. It could have happened on January 3, 2023, since most of the changes to the House Rules, which I supported and McCarthy agreed to, were discussed and agreed to by House Republicans on January 1, 2023. The only rule that was changed between January 1, 2023, and January 7, 2023, was the rule on the Motion to Vacate the Chair, which could remove the Speaker of the House. The threshold to make a Motion to Vacate was lowered from five Republican members to ANY one member of the House, including a Democrat. I personally believe that allowing any one member to make this motion will be used by Democrats against Republicans.

GET THE FACTS: Biden's Border Crisis Breaks Records

President Biden's border crisis continues to break records. In November 2022, there were 233,740 migrant encounters at our southern border in November. This data makes it the worst November on CBP’s 22-year record for monthly crossings, and the ninth consecutive month that our southern border had more than 200,000 illegal crossings. With these November numbers, there have now been over 4.5 million illegal immigrants who have been apprehended at our southern border. Still, the Biden Administration is continuing its fight to lift Title 42 and President Trump's successful Remain in Mexico policy. With the majority, House Republicans already have legislation ready to go to secure our southern border. I will continue to work with my colleagues to hold the Biden Administration accountable for its failed open-border policies and restore border security to Arizona and our nation!

Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted our office after not receiving her federal retirement check 10 months after she retired. Our office contacted the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and requested a review. After contacting OPM, the agency finalized her retirement benefits plan, and the constituent received a retroactive payment. The agency also properly set up the monthly recurring benefits, which the constituent will receive each month.
