Dear Georgian,

After a week of voting, the House of Representatives officially elected GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy to be our Speaker.

Regardless of what the pundits have said about this week, the right man has been elected to serve as the Speaker of the House, and the framework is in place to give all members the ability to address the issues our constituents sent us to Washington to fix.

Now that Congress has been sworn in, it is time to rein in reckless spending, fix our economy, restore energy independence, provide oversight of the Biden Administration, and secure our southern border. I look forward to getting to work immediately to address our nation’s problems.

Georgia's Eighth District looks new this year as I now also represent Crisp, Baldwin, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Echols, and Clinch Counties. It is an honor to represent you in Congress, and I am ready to work hard for our nation under new House leadership.

Also, good luck to the Dawgs tomorrow night in the championship game against TCU. GO DAWGS!

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. Sincerely,

Fox News | GOP anger at holdouts grows: Any vote against McCarthy 'damages the conference and our ability to govern'

"Congressional Republicans expressed anger at party holdouts against electing Kevin McCarthy of California as speaker of the House, with one senior congressman warning that voting against the leader 'damages the conference.'

A handful of Republicans are bringing the House of Representatives to a standstill by pledging not to vote for McCarthy for speaker, meaning the chamber may be inoperative if the GOP membership cannot coalesce behind their leader.

Several GOP members have gone after their colleagues holding out on voting for McCarthy, with Rep. Austin Scott of Georgia warning that voting against the leader for speaker 'damages the conference' and Republicans’ 'ability to govern.'"

Just the NewsFlouting Congress, DOD, Army maintains military COVID vax mandate on Guard, Reserves

"The U.S. Army is continuing to enforce the military's COVID-19 vaccine mandate on the National Guard and Reserves, despite the recent abandonment of the controversial and legally shaky order by Congress and the Pentagon itself.

On Dec. 23, President Biden signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the $858 billion defense spending bill repealing the mandate. On Dec. 29, the Defense Department followed suit, rescinding the mandate that has frayed military morale and resulted in the discharge of over 8,000 service members who refused the vaccine."
