News From Congressman Bilirakis
January 8, 2023

Dear Neighbor,

I am pleased that we have finally elected a Speaker for the 118th Congress. While the process may have looked ugly to many, we know that democracy in action can sometimes be messy. But, having a robust debate on ways to improve Congress can never be wrong. Speaker McCarthy will lead this Republican conference to honor its commitment to America.  Americans are suffering as a result of the catastrophic leadership of one-party rule in Washington and are desperate for immediate help.  They are counting on us to deliver upon the promises we’ve made to ensure an economy that is strong, a future that is free, a nation that is safe and a government that is accountable!   I will do everything in my power to further this America-first agenda and will be sure to hold the Speaker accountable for doing the same.

I am also excited to welcome new constituents to Florida’s 12th Congressional District.  As noted in this article, Florida’s 12th Congressional district now includes Hernando, Citrus and parts of Pasco County.  To better serve all my constituents, I have opened fully staffed offices in Hernando and Citrus counties.  My New Port Richey office will remain open and fully staffed as well.  My team and I look forward to the privilege of serving all three counties and every constituent.  We encourage you to stay in touch with us on the issues that matter most to you and will do all we can to meet your needs.  Later this month, I’m hosting an Open House in my Citrus and Hernando offices.  My newest constituents are invited to come out and meet our team!

Strengthening Protections

We have seen an increase in cyber-crimes targeting Americans across the country, from hospitals, law enforcement entities, to even run-of-the-mill businesses in our communities. We must strengthen safeguards to make America more resilient to these ransomware and cyber security threats.  One of the bills I authored to help achieve this goal was just signed into law.  Click here to read more.

The FCC is also reporting a rise in fraudulent scams targeting the elderly and other vulnerable populations.  This article includes a few reminders to avoid becoming a victim.

Supporting our Heroes

I was honored to be on hand to celebrate Retired Army Staff Sgt. Thornton and her two children receiving the very first house given away by the Tunnel To Towers Foundation in the new Let Us Do Good Village located in Land O’ Lakes.  Through this initiative, Gold Star Families, catastrophically injured Veterans and the families of fallen first responders receive mortgage-free homes.  The Thorntons became a Gold Star Family after losing their husband and father, Army Sgt. Robert Thornton, in 2017.  It was an honor to welcome them to Pasco County and to their new home!

Celebrating Success

I’m excited to see more than 550 new manufacturing jobs coming to Pasco County and the continued partnership between local businesses and schools to ensure quality, hands-on learning opportunities for students. Click here to learn more.   It is also not a surprise that Florida continues to be the fastest growing state in the nation.  We have a great Governor and tremendous leaders in our state who are committed to ensuring freedom and economic opportunities for all Floridians.

Sharing Our Faith

I hope all of my Orthodox brothers and sisters had a wonderful Epiphany Celebration this weekend!  May the joy and hope that accompanies this holy day stay with each of you throughout the year.  This sacred event was once again enjoyed by many throughout the Tampa Bay area as Tarpon Springs transformed into Epiphany City, holding the largest Epiphany celebration in the Western Hemisphere.  Congratulations to diver, George Stamas, on retrieving this year’s blessed Epiphany cross. Many blessings to him and his family!

I was unable to participate in the festivities as I was in Washington, DC with scheduled votes.  However, I appreciated that two of my sons were able to join me for a portion of the week.

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties members of my team attended several events last week.  Here are a few highlights.

My team attended last week’s Brooksville Matters Meeting.  This is a group of civic leaders working to improve the quality of life for residents of Brooksville.  We look forward to continuing to learn more about the needs of our new constituents and how we can help!

My team was also proud to participate in last week’s Citrus Chamber luncheon in Crystal River.  It is always great to hear directly from small business owners about their needs.

Additionally, my team was eager to learn about transportation and other needs at last week's Hernando County Business Association.

Supporting Small Businesses

Small Business is the backbone of our economy. Each week, I highlight newly opened or expanded businesses in our community that my team or I have visited.  Congratulations to these hard-working entrepreneurs & best wishes for their continued success as they realize their American Dream!

Congratulations to the owners of Kerri Kool HVAC Mechanical & Refrigeration in Crystal River.  My team enjoyed attending your ribbon cutting ceremony last week.

Constituent Corner

My office recently received this email.

Thank you for helping me obtain a copy of my father's military records.  By gaining these, I was able to complete my mother's claim for DIC. I had been trying for a long time before reaching out to your office, with no luck.  I really appreciate the kindness and competence of your staff.

This is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
