As you may know, our state legislature kicked off its 2023 session on Monday. We’re now dealing with a GOP supermajority in the legislature, which means there will be a LOT of extreme bills brought to the floor in the state house.
Already, Republican representatives are looking to introduce bills that will further curtail access to reproductive health care, crack down on what can and cannot be taught in schools, and loosen any remaining restrictions on gun ownership.
State Senator Fitzpatrick of Great Falls will serve as the majority leader and he’s been touting a pretty radical record of GOP legislative actions in 2021 on things like taxes, restricting public measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, guns, and abortion.
It’s on us as a Democratic Party to work hard over the next year to hold the GOP accountable. We cannot allow them to introduce, pass, and enact extremist laws that will restrict Montanan’s freedoms and drag our state back in the dark. We need to make it very clear what the legislature is up to all year long.
But to do that, we’re going to need the resources to run ads, send texts, and hold events to rally opposition against new bills. Will you help us make sure we can get it all done this year by pitching in $5, $10, or anything you can afford to the Montana Dems today?
