John
Right now, facial recognition companies are looking at schools and drooling.
They’re coming up with all kinds of lies to scare administrators into spending millions on oppressive biometric surveillance systems that would let administrators and cops track students and faculty everywhere they go.
This amounts to unethical experimentation on students. We need to stop it.
Across the USA, students are organizing to fight back against the erosion of their liberties and school administrations’ misguided plans to turn campuses into mini-surveillance states. We’ve developed a new petition tool to help students, alumni, staff, faculty, parents, and campus communities sign on and demand their campus bans facial recognition.
Ever since we got 40+ music festivals to say they will not use facial recognition1 we’ve been researching the new frontiers for facial recognition, and watching as schools trade away student privacy, thinking it will give them more security.2 This is a false choice, and a future of unlimited surveillance no one wants.
Institutions of higher learning are where students have the most say, so we are working with our friends at Students for Sensible Drug Policy to organize students and campus groups to demand that their administrations ban facial recognition.
Time for our favorite group activity: making unethical venture capitalists cry. 😈
