VIDEO OF THE DAY: Kevin McCarthy makes pathetic misstep immediately after winning embarrassing fight for speakership
McCarthy, who after a once-in-a-century humiliation finally managed to win the House speakership on the FIFTEENTH ballot, made sure to grovel and pledge allegiance to Donald Trump in front of rolling cameras, crediting the disgraced ex-president for helping him limp across the finish line after days of embarrassing defeats.

Republicans target transgender health care in first bills of 2023
After a midterm election and record flow of anti-transgender legislation last year, Republican state lawmakers across the country are zeroing in on questions of bodily autonomy with new proposals to limit gender-affirming health care and abortion access, because nothing is more pressing for "small government" conservatives than dictating how other people are allowed to live, think, and act.

Rejecting bump stock ban, federal court legalizes instrument of mass murder
Despite acknowledging "tremendous" public pressure to impose a ban on bump stocks, a firearm attachment used in the deadliest mass shooting in US history, the conservative-packed 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans rejected a 2019 ban barring people from owning the instruments. Look, everyone knows when the founding fathers passed the 2nd Amendment in 1791, they absolutely intended on enshrining the rights of dough babies, adult basement dwellers, very proud boys, and super lonely wolves across the country to equip ruthless killing machines with supercool after-market gadgets expressly designed to make murdering humans easier.

Mark Rozzi, a moderate Democrat from Berks County, promised not to caucus with either party and serve as an independent speaker, presiding over a chamber that should eventually be deadlocked in a 101-101-1 partisan split after all vacancies are filled.
