Taking a quick moment after a busy day to update you. And no, this email isn’t about Kevin McCarthy, well not exactly.
This morning, I was sworn in to serve in the House for the next two years. And I look forward to the work ahead — to fight for our democracy and for an economy that works for everyone. To serve my constituents and my country, and to move us forward.
And for the first time in four years, Republicans will control the House. And they’re hell bent on reversing all the progress we made with Joe Biden in the White House and Democrats in control of the House and Senate.
They want to set back progress on health care and women’s reproductive rights. On fighting climate change and investing in green energy. On gun safety. On protecting our democracy. On bringing down costs.
On all of it. And we can’t let that happen. We just can’t.
Already, Republicans are promising to kick me off the House Intelligence Committee and find new and creative ways to retaliate against me for holding them and Trump accountable.
They’re creating a witch hunt subcommittee in the Judiciary Committee, meant to go after the DOJ and FBI, in a forlorn effort to discredit the investigations of Trump’s misconduct. And also look into conspiracy theories the right-wing has championed.
They’re poised to vote on bills — as soon as next week — to attack abortion access, roll back even more women’s health care rights, help oil companies pollute more, and enable billionaires to avoid paying taxes.
Seriously. Those are the new Republican Majority’s first orders of business. It’s not surprising. But it shows their messed up priorities nonetheless.
That’s why we need to start preparing right now. To fight back. To take back the House. To protect the Senate. And to protect our democracy. From Republicans who would seek to roll it all back and sow chaos.
