Dear John,
After 15 Speaker votes over four days, I was finally sworn in to represent Minnesota’s Second District early this morning in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 118th Congress.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress, and I am excited to continue that important work for the next two years.
We accomplished great things during the 117th Congress. We finally gave Medicare the power to negotiate drug prices, capped the co-pay of insulin at $35/month for Medicare beneficiaries, passed a bill to allow year-round sales of E15 for the first time and sent my bill to expand benefits for police officers and their families to President Biden’s desk.
I firmly believe that in order to make lasting progress, the laws we pass in Congress must have support from both Democrats and Republicans. I’ve worked to build strong relationships with members of both parties, and that’s how I was ranked in the top 3% of all bipartisan members of Congress by the Common Ground Committee. I finished my second term with a record of 80% of the legislation that I wrote or co-sponsored being bipartisan. I am confident that we can continue that momentum of finding common ground in the weeks and months to come.
We’ve got a Farm Bill to write this Congress, and I look forward to bringing the voices and priorities of Minnesota farmers to those discussions. We also need to pass my bill to cap insulin costs at $35/month for Americans on private health plans and with no health insurance at all, ban Members of Congress from trading stocks and, of course, strengthen reproductive rights.
As always, my team and I are here to serve you. Contact our office if you have ideas on what we should be working on in Congress or if you need help solving a problem with a government agency.
Looking forward to more updates to come, thank you for following along.
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
