Friend --
Tonight is the first debate of 2020, the last debate before the
February 3rd Iowa Caucuses, the smallest debate in terms of the number
of candidates on stage, and probably the biggest debate in terms of
impact on the coming primaries. And did we mention impeachment? And
the escalating conflict with Iran? Yeah, you’re not going to want to
miss this one.
Where and
when can I watch?
The debate will air live at 9:00pm EDT on CNN,
and is co-hosted by The Des Moines Register at Drake University in Des
Moines, Iowa.
Which candidates made the
debate stage?
Folks, we’re down to six (they’re dropping like flies). There
are, of course, more candidates still running, but these are the ones
who made the cut for this debate, based on polling and
donors.
Who’s
moderating?
Keeping things on track
tonight are Wolf Blitzer and Abby Phillip of CNN, and Brianne
Pfannenstiel of the Des Moines Register. Here are their Twitter
handles so you can engage with them.
Where do the candidates stand
on the issues?
Do you want to know what the
candidates have to say about Donald Trump's recent military escalation
with Iran? And where they stand on our other priority
issues? Visit
our candidate profiles here, which include all the latest updates from
those on stage tonight.
What's being discussed
tonight?
CNN says, “The debate will provide an opportunity for the candidates to
focus on foreign policy as they make their presidential case to the
American people,” so it seems like a safe bet that tensions with Iran
will be a big topic, given Donald Trump’s assassination of Iranian
general Qasem Soleimani and the retaliatory strikes on Iraqi military
bases housing U.S. troops. And who knows, maybe they’ll touch on
accountability for Israel once again (fingers crossed).
Tracking the issues on social
media?
Use relevant
#hashtags: The official hashtag of the debates is
#DemDebate.
To make sure we find and interact with Arab Americans engaging on
social media, please use #YallaVote when tweeting. We
also encourage you to use issue-specific hashtags like
#RefugeesWelcome for the border crisis,
#PalestineIs for Israel/Palestine-related
discussions, #NoMuslimBanEver for Trump’s Muslim
ban, #2020Census for the
census, #FairMaps for anti-gerrymandering efforts,
and critically #NoWarWithIran for (you guessed it)
war with Iran.
Let's make sure the
candidates know: We are watching and preparing to
#YallaVote!
