Yesterday, I was joined by our special guest Mustafa Aykolm, and MPAC’s Director of Research and Strategic Communications, Dr. Javad T. Hashmi, to discuss our recently released Islamic Declaration Against Religious Police, which calls for the complete abolition of the religious police that exists in Muslim-majority countries. 
"This is an issue not just in Iran. This is an issue across the Islamic world of religious police and religious force. So, until we deal with that root, this problem is going crop up in every country."

We have an obligation, rooted in our Islamic traditions and faith, to reject any form of religious compulsion or force. The Declaration was prompted by recent events in Iran but its message is applicable to all: Religious policing has little to do with the Islamic faith and is rather a calculated means by which authoritarian governments extend their power, control, and surveillance over their own people, particularly women.
