Gov. Justice says another month of revenue surplus means major tax cuts on the way
Gov. Jim Justice announced that West Virginia’s General Revenue collections for December 2022 are $145.6 million above estimates and 9.0% ahead of prior year receipts. Year-to-date record collections are $833 million above estimate.

“We’ve seen more and more surpluses roll in each and every month of this fiscal year, and now it’s time for some relief in the form of substantial tax cuts,” Gov. Justice said. “I encourage all West Virginians to tune in to my State of the State Address on January 11, where I will outline my plan for how we can put money back into the pockets of Hardworking West Virginians through meaningful and responsible tax cuts."

Gov. Justice says he plans to outline one of largest tax cuts in state history at upcoming State of the State Address
There will be a lot of reasons to watch this year's State of the State Address, especially because of what Gov. Justice calls the biggest tax cut in West Virginia history.

He
 plans to unveil his plan during his annual address to the state. Make sure to watch at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11th. It will be on PBS and streamed on his social media channels.

Gov. Justice announces appointment of longtime Marion County educator as Executive Director of School Building Authority

Gov. Jim Justice announced that he has appointed Andy Neptune as Executive Director of the West Virginia School Building Authority.

Neptune fills the vacancy created when David Roach became Superintendent of the West Virginia State Board of Education. The appointment is effective immediately, and he will be sworn in at the next board meeting on January 11th. 

Neptune is an experienced educator and administrator, serving 34 years in the Marion County school system, with the last 14 in the county's central office as an administrative assistant.

Dr. Matthew Christiansen named State Health Officer and Bureau for Public Health Commissioner
Gov. Justice and Jeffrey H. Coben, M.D., Interim Cabinet Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR), announced the appointment of Matthew Christiansen, M.D., M.P.H., as State Health Officer and Commissioner of DHHR’s Bureau for Public Health. This appointment is effective immediately.

Dr. Christiansen currently serves as the Director of DHHR’s Office of Drug Control Policy (ODCP) and was appointed to this position in October 2020 by Gov. Justice. He also serves as Associate Professor in the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, Department of Family and Community Health where he practices primary care and addiction medicine.

Hope Gas expands natural gas footprint in West Virginia by purchasing Peoples Gas

Hope Gas today announced that it has entered into an agreement to purchase Peoples Gas WV. Hope Gas, which is based out of Morgantown, is one of the state's largest local natural gas companies.

Hope Gas currently employs approximately 350 employees and provides gas service to approximately 112,000 residential, industrial, and commercial customers in 35 West Virginia counties.
