John,
Two years ago, our country stood still, watching in horror as armed extremists stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election. This domestic terrorist attack is intrinsically linked to radical interpretations of the Second Amendment that the gun lobby has worked to spread for decades.
While the violence of that day was horrific, it was not a surprising endpoint to the gun lobby’s deadly claims that ‘the guys with the guns make the rules.’ Now, we find ourselves living in a nation where the NRA’s radical interpretation of the Second Amendment has become the law of the land and it is easier than ever for a person to carry a weapon in public.
The past two years have been the most deadly for gun violence in recent memory and it is more important than ever that we fight gun lobby rhetoric, extremist beliefs, and hate in our nation. Because we know exactly how deadly these ideals can become when armed.
Our country witnessed a recent hate-fueled attack in Colorado Springs, CO, where a gunman with an AR-15 assault rifle opened fire on a gay nightclub, killing five people and injuring 25 others in only minutes. And another in Buffalo, NY, where a white supremacist in tactical gear, armed with an assault weapon, entered a grocery store in a predominantly Black neighborhood and killed 10 people.
The NRA and the gun lobby have spent decades emboldening vigilantes to take violent action against our lawmakers and our democratic institutions and fueling hate, made deadly when combined with our country’s lax gun laws. It’s exactly why Brady works tirelessly, day in and day out, to defeat the gun lobby and their insidious influence.
We cannot stay silent in the face of extremist beliefs and deadly hate, John. Will you donate today and help fuel our work to save lives? It is up to all of us to remain in this fight – we won’t stop working until every American is safe. [[link removed]]
