Republicans are failing the people

Dear Neighbor,

I hope this email reaches you and your family in good health and safety.

As many of you may know, Republicans have so far failed to elect a Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 118th Congress. This failure – after thirteen rounds of voting and counting – is evidence Republicans are not fit to govern. They have no plan to make life better for the people, and what we’ve seen these past few days demonstrates just that.

The 118th Congress is a critical inflection point for our nation. Democrats have a clear mandate for the next two years to continue standing on the side of the people and show the public what’s possible when we advance meaningful policies that save lives and protect our most vulnerable. Policies that uplift equitable health care, student debt cancellation, abortion rights, paid leave, childcare, housing, and more.

The contrast couldn’t be clearer: the Republican Party do not have any policy vision. And certainly not one that centers Black and brown folks, women, and our most vulnerable. They are anti-worker, anti-woman, anti-immigrant, and anti-democracy.

I spoke with MSNBC’s Joy Reid about the failed Republican Speakership votes and my vision for the 118th Congress. You can watch the interview here.

As you know, I’ve always sought to use every aspect of my power to make progress for our communities. That includes partnering with our new House Democratic leadership, the Biden-Harris White House on executive action, and Governor Healey back home.

Rest assured, despite the disgraceful chaos we’re seeing from Republicans, I will do everything in my power to put your best interests first.
