House Speakership Race
It has been a very turbulent week in Washington. Many of you may have been following along. I am speaking of course of the Speaker’s Race in the U.S. House of Representatives. In light of this saga, I wish to offer you my thoughts on what has occurred.
After the election on November 8, it took multiple weeks for my party to confirm that we would be in the Majority during the upcoming 118th Congress. Due to the delay, many standard conversations about the rules and operations of the House of Representatives, which usually occur immediately after winning the Majority, did not happen before the holiday season, when Congress is largely adjourned. This contributed to many of my conservative colleagues still feeling a need to have further discussions and come to an agreement with our nominated-Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, before we begin to solve America’s most pressing issues.
As of this afternoon, I do expect Kevin McCarthy to be elected Speaker of the House.
In the end it may be better if we tackle my party's divide now. Many of the issues my Republican colleagues felt a need to express were valid and should not be disregarded. Every member of my party plays an important role in solving America’s most pressing issues. Now that my fellow Republicans seem to be coming to an agreement, we will hopefully be able to move forward as one body and voice for the American people.
I want to thank each of you for your patience during the past few days. My Republican colleagues and I will quickly move forward to eradicate skyrocketing inflation, close our southern border, and hold the Biden administration accountable.
