John,
Today marks two years since right-wing extremists — incited by Donald Trump’s hateful rhetoric — attacked our nation’s Capitol to prevent the peaceful transition of power to the Biden-Harris Administration.
I still vividly remember the angry mob of Trump supporters storming the building as I evacuated the House floor alongside my colleagues, unaware of what would come next.
I am grateful to the police officers who risked their own lives to protect members of Congress, our staff, and many others who walked the halls of the Capitol building.
Because of those brave officers, we returned to the floor later that night to finish the democratic process and certify the 2020 election results.
Although the far-right’s attempts to thwart the democratic process failed that day, Americans across our country witnessed just how fragile our democracy is.
And since then, Trump’s GOP allies have continued to peddle his Big Lie, spread conspiracies that question the legitimacy of our electoral process, and blocked legislation protecting every American’s fundamental right to vote.
With so much on the line, I will give it my all to defend our democracy, but I can’t do it alone.
Will you sign on today to show the far-right that there is a strong grassroots movement standing with me in the fight to overcome GOP extremism and strengthen our democracy?
Thank you for being a part of this fight.
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
