If you own something—like a cellphone, laptop, or television—you’d think you have the right to make any repairs it might need. Sadly, before last week, that was not the case for the people of New York State.
Last week, Governor Hochul signed into law legislation making New York State the first to adopt the right to repair—a right I helped champion at the state level and have now taken to Congress. This legislation is a win for consumers, small businesses, and our environment, and underscores why creating a federal right to repair would be so beneficial. I’ve introduced legislation to make that happen, and I’ll continue leading the fight to ensure families across the country have the right to repair.
