This has been an historic week in Congress as we navigate the first election of a House Speaker in centuries that has required multiple votes. Despite these challenges, I remain focused and ready to get back to work on the issues most important to our community: lowering the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, uplifting our families, and building a better community for everyone who calls Rochester home. Lowering Healthcare Costs

Last year, I helped pass critical provisions to lower the cost of insulin to $35 per month for seniors on Medicare. Now that we have entered 2023, this change has officially taken effect. This could save families thousands of dollars a year on their healthcare bills and help ease the financial burden at a time when it’s needed most.

This is a huge step forward, but the work is not done. This year, I will continue the fight to lower the cost of prescription drugs across the board—because families deserve a break.

Protecting Shoreline Communities

Rochester’s unique position along the Great Lakes holds significant potential and economic opportunity for our community—but sadly, our neighbors along the waterfront can be some of the hardest hit by the climate crisis. That’s why I was proud to work alongside my colleagues on the Great Lakes Task Force to help pass the Great Lakes Authority Act in our annual appropriations package.

This legislation will help to strengthen the resiliency of our waterfront communities and ensure we have the resources necessary to flourish and prosper for generations to come. You can always count on me to fight to preserve our natural resources and bolster the potential of shoreline regions like Rochester.

Fighting for the Right to Repair

If you own something—like a cellphone, laptop, or television—you’d think you have the right to make any repairs it might need. Sadly, before last week, that was not the case for the people of New York State.

Last week, Governor Hochul signed into law legislation making New York State the first to adopt the right to repair—a right I helped champion at the state level and have now taken to Congress. This legislation is a win for consumers, small businesses, and our environment, and underscores why creating a federal right to repair would be so beneficial. I’ve introduced legislation to make that happen, and I’ll continue leading the fight to ensure families across the country have the right to repair.
